What can a notary public do?

  • Witness signatures: A notary public can witness the signing of important documents, such as deeds, contracts, and loan documents. 
  • Administer oaths: A notary public can administer oaths and affirmations. 
  • Take depositions: A notary public can take depositions. 
  • Certify copies: A notary public can certify copies of documents that are not recordable in public records. 
  • Protest instruments: A notary public can protest instruments, such as negotiable instruments, bills, and notes.
